About Sisu Catahoulas
I am a small breeder located in Southeast Indiana. I’ve owned Catahoulas since 1996. After many years showing in UKC I became an NALC Certified Breeder in the summer of 2009.
I believe in breeding the best working dogs possible. This means dogs that are structurally sound, well-tempered, and have good work ethic and drive. My dogs are regular competitors in the UKC Conformation ring and have been ranked in UKC’s Top Ten for the breed. They are my personal companions and varmint control at my home. Their primary game is raccoon. I am currently branching out into different performance venues with each dog focusing on his strengths, demonstrating the breed’s versatility.
I hip test my dogs using either PennHIP or OFA.
My name, Sisu, comes from the Finnish word that best translates as “guts”. It’s more than that, however. It’s strength of will, tenacity, determination, perseverance, and acting rationally in the face of adversity. It’s part of who I am and, after years of watching my dogs never give up when I ask them to do something, I realized it was part of them, too.
